Where is a good place to park? It's been awhile since I was downtown.

Here are a few protest picks that Sue sent me from Arizona. Please forgive the quality.

Can you slow the slides down? My eyes are old and slow just like the rest of me!

Spike,

Here's the google satellite image of the area with suggested parking. I would suggest parking on the Broad St. Bridge (2 hour limit, 25 cents for 26 minutes) because it's right behind the park where the Tea Party is at. If there's nothing there, try further west on Broad St or the Civic Center Garage.

BTW, here's the logo for the Rochester Tea Party:

I hope to see you all there! I'll be proudly carrying the American Flag and MC-ing the event.

Is there any theme if we wanted to bring signs or anything? How about tea, is it BYOT? Is there an agenda? You mentioned speakers.

I will be there for sure. Probably not until 5-ish.

Do you want to speak? By all means have your say, my invitation to you!

For sure there's a theme. From my email to FreedomWorks:

I think we need to grab this opportunity while Paterson is in Rochester to show our outrage with the double-whammy of his budget and the Porkulus Package.

The Speakers are regular folks who are participants on the D&C Editorial Blog and Conservative Blogs in the Rachacha area. We're not bigshots and we welcome your participation!

Let's get a freedom movement going!

Speak? Well, I wouldn't want to formally commit to anything since I'm not certain when I'll roll in and I kow it won't be well ahead of time. If it's an open-mike sort of thing I'm a likely contributor.

Mostly I was wondering if there was a theme besides the tea dump. Should signs and speaches address Patterson directly? Are you guys focusing tightly on taxation? that sort of thing. In the photos above, that group seemed to be aiming at the porkulus package.

Sam Adams would be proud.

I'm only planning an hour for this. We roll in, make our point and peacefully depart. Starting at 5pm, there's a half hour or so rally planned in the park, the tea dump on the bridge, then the protest by the Convention Center when Paterson is due to roll in. Depending on how it goes at the Convention Center, we can start breaking things up at 6pm or so. If thing's are going well and people want to stay there a little later, that'd be cool too.

Yeah, the Tea Parties in other cities have been themed to protest the Porkulus Package and the advance of big-government and socialism that it brings. We in New York are nailed a second time, living in a state that's steeped with socialism and paying the highest taxes in the Union and our Governor is proposing over 80 new fees and taxes in his budget, including the nanny-state "Fat Tax". From both the Fed's and the State, free enterprise is being squeezed by big government socialism. The themes for the inaugural Rochester Tea Party are protesting the Porkulus Package and the advance of big-government and socialism that it brings and also protesting big-government and socialism in New York State and Gov. Paterson's budget with it's 80 new fees and taxes.

I suggest making dual sided signs, one side making a statement on protesting Porkulus Package and the advance of big-government and socialism that it brings, and on the other side, a statement protesting Gov. Paterson's budget or of bloated and corrupt New York State government.

We'll rally protesting both at the park, do the tea dump and then focus on state issues by the Convention Center.

If you have any suggestions, I'm open to them. You've organized stuff like this before and I appreciate your input.

My wife is getting a box of cheap tea from the Dollar Store and I'll be bringing that, but if you want to bring your own, that would help.

A point that came up on another blog is that we should probably only toss the tea itself into the River. If you bring loose tea, that would be good, scatter it into the Genesee like the ashes of a nearly dearly departed Republic! Rolling Eyes If you have tea bags, break them open and dump the tea only into the river. That way we won't get busted for polluting or littering.

I don't know, Spike, but go ahead. It doesn't need to come from an official source.

Laughing

Yeah, the Sons of Liberty risked getting hung for what they did.

Thanks Mark and Spike!

I'm making a sign identifying us as "The Rochester Tea Party". I'll be carrying the Flag as well. It's a nice one the I got from the VOC's Stars and Stripes Flag Store on South Ave. If you ever need a Flag or something patriotic, get it there as the proceeds go to the Veterans programs that are sponsored by the VOC.

Does anyone have a "Don't Tread On Me" flag?

These are $38.95 each at theFlag Store.

They even have a Sons of Liberty flag! Cool!

It'd be great to have a bag piper and for sure have to have one if we have an April 15 Tea Party.

Speaking of the great Sam Adams:

"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."

I'd say that say it pretty well!!!

Flag protocol question. I am going to be flying three flags from my porch this year, the American Flag, the Flag of Ireland and the Gadsen Flag (Don't tread on me). I know that our nations flag would take the most prominent placement highest and in the center, however what should the placement be of the Flag of Ireland (Me ol sod) and the Gadsen Flag.

Love the graphic!

As for the flag question, I would put US Flag, Gadsen Flag and Flag of Ireland. But I'm no expert. I just favor the US flags to be posted first on US soil.

Consensus?

When I bought my flag and pole from the Stars and Stripes Flag Store, the lady who helped me gave me an American Flag History and Usage booklet. Here's what it says about the placement of an American Flag with other flags:

Quote:
When A Number of State Flags, Flags of Localities or Pennants of Societies are Group and Displayed from Staffs.

The Flag of the United States should be in the center and the highest point in the group.

When Flags of Two or More Nations are Displayed

They are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. In times of peace, international usage dictates displaying one nation's flag equally to that of another.

I don't think it makes a difference which of your other flags are on the left or right, as long as the US flag is the highest and in the middle.

Are you coming to the Rochester Tea Party? If so, bring your Gadsen flag!

BTW, to my fellow military veterans who are reading this, we are now allowed to salute the American Flag during the playing of the National Anthem and also for it's passage during a parade, even if we're wearing civilian clothes. I started saluting during the playing of the National Anthem before my son's football games. It felt good to do it and it identifies you as a veteran.

Hey Mark, I just noticed that you have my .sig line quote displayed on the RochesterWatch banner. Cool! I love that quote, kind of says it all, especially in the times we're living in.
